AIMS AND CONTENT

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Introduction to infectious diseases: global impact, definitions of infectious diseases, contagiousness, routes of transmission.

Care practice-associated infections, definitions, incidence, examples, prevention, with emphasis on bloodstream infections associated with central venous catheters, bladder catheter-associated infection, and Clostridium difficile infection.

Sepsis and septic shock. Management of the critical patient.

Meningitis, encephalitis. Pneumonia. Tuberculosis.

Exanthematous diseases (varicella, measles, rubella, scarlet fever).

Viral hepatitis. Gastrointestinal infections.

Infectious risk in the immunocompromised patient.

Infection control, types of isolation measures.

Antibiotic resistance and antimicrobial stewardship.

Biohazard.

SarS CoV-2 infection.
