The course provides the basic concepts of construction techniques relating to reinforced concrete and steel structures, with particular reference to the mechanical properties of the materials, the design and verification of the structural elements. Case study are discussed and developed.
The course imparts the fundamentals of the theory and calculation of structural elements and connections in steel and reinforced concrete structures, emphasizing the sequential concepts that link construction science and technology. It then frames this subject within the broader context of structural theory and safety, illustrating principles related to actions, modeling, and analysis of structural systems, examination of failure and collapse states, and safety verifications at various levels. All topics are addressed in light of national and international construction regulations. Alongside practical exercises, the course also provides general elements on the evolution and classification of structural systems, also illustrating many examples and real cases of significant technical and conceptual relevance.
Students must have obtained the prerequisites to attend third-year courses, having passed Mathematical Analysis I, Mathematical Analysis II, General Physics, Mathematical Physics I, Geometry, Structural Mechanics and must be able to handle with basic static schemes of common structural mechanics systems. Students must be capable of expressing concepts appropriately, performing simple calculations, and correctly using units of measurement.
