OVERVIEW

The course is organized in two modules to provide students with knowledge of principles of chemistry for applied technologies and of industrial chemical processes in order to understand and deepen the environmental impact as well as estimate it from a qualitative / quantitative point of view. The course will also provide the basis for developing possible reduction strategies in different systems i.e. water, air and soil systems. Details are reported in each module (teaching outcomes and learning objectives).

On completion of this course, students will be able to evaluate environmental and technological processes, with particular attention to atmospheric and water chemistry and pollution. The course will also provide an in-depth knowledge of the main industrial processes, with particular reference to environmental and sustainability issues related to these processes and their products. Students will and will be able to carry out mass and energy macroscopic balances on simple processes.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

On completion of this course, students will be able to: describe, discuss and compare structure and properties of inorganic and organic chemicals (including polymers and biomolecules) involved in environmental and technological processes, with particular attention to atmospheric chemistry and pollution. The course will also provide an in-depth knowledge of the main industrial processes, with particular reference to environmental and sustainability issues related to these processes and their products. Students will acquire skills and methods to deal with problems related to the chemicals reactivity and interactions and will be able to carry out macroscopic mass and energy balances on simple processes.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The examination methods are detailed for each of the modules.

The mark obtained in teaching will be the average of the marks awarded in the two modules in which the teaching is divided. Please refer to the consultation of the individual modules for details.

Working students and students with SLD, disability or other special educational needs certification are advised to contact the teacher at the beginning of the course to agree on teaching and examination methods that, in compliance with the teaching objectives, take into account individual learning modalities.

ASSESSMENT METHODS
