AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The main educational objective is, starting from the detailed analysis of the industrial chemical processes currently used for the production of fuels, fuels, materials, and chemical products for industrial and household use, to provide the student with the necessary knowledge to be able to evaluate and quantify by means of material and energy balances the environmental effects of these processes and products and of the presence on the territory of the production plants. Overall, the student will acquire the ability to evaluate and quantify, in practical terms and on the basis of the composition of the raw materials, as well as the thermodynamic, kinetic, economic and environmental aspects, the reasons for the technical choices of the existing processes and to evaluate similarly, innovative processes and technologies with lower environmental impact. TEACHING METHODS Lectures in english. Hybrid teaching if necessary. Visit to plants and laboratories. SYLLABUS/CONTENT Raw material. Air, water and soil pollution. Treatments and uses of natural gas. The exam will consist of two questions on two topics covered during the course. In one of these the aspects of characteristics of the products will be analyzed and in a second one the characteristic of processes and quantification of environmental relevant parameters by applying mass and/or energy balances will be object of discussion. Working students and students with SLD, disability or other special educational needs certification are advised to contact the teacher at the beginning of the course to agree on teaching and examination methods that, in compliance with the teaching objectives, take account of individual learning methods ASSESSMENT METHODS TThrough the critical discussion of the characteristics of products used at industrial level and the processes necessary to produce them, it will be possible to evaluate the student's knowledge and depth of understanding of the chemical, energy, economic and environmental aspects of chemical processes associated with the development of chemical and energy technologies.
