This course presents the Internet and recent paradigms such as Internet of Things and Cloud Computing. Special attention will be paid to the evolution of the Web, focusing in particular on the Semantic Web and the Semantic Web of Things. Application scenarios will then be presented in which the various technologies are used. Among these, the use of the principles of the semantic web for annotating web pages from according to Search Engine Optimization (SEO) principles. The theory part on the Semantic Web is delivered in English, the other parts of the course are delivered in Italian.
The aim of the course is to provide students with knowledge and understanding of key features of the Internet and Web evolution. Specifically, the course will deal with the technological infrastructure of Internet and new paradigms such as the Internet of Things and Cloud Computing. Moreover, the course will present the evolution of the Web and will focus on the Semantic Web and the Web of Things. In this respect, the course will introduce methods and techniques for knowledge representation using ontologies and Semantic Web languages The course includes practice activities and the presentation of applications scenarios.
This course will present the Internet infrastructure and will describe new paradigms such as the Internet of Things and Cloud Computing. The course will then focus on the Semantic Web and on related formalisms for knowledge representation, with exercises and description of application scenarios.
At the end of the course, students
- will be skilled about Internet infrastructure and new trends,
- will have abilities to build and query an ontology and to annotate web contents by using structured data markups (Microdata, RDFa, JSON-LD)
- will have acquired project skills
The prerequisite for this course is 12 CFU in Computer Science
Teaching is based on lectures, working groups, and on class exercises. Classes can be attended face-to-face or online and include design activities.
