OVERVIEW

The course is like a studio-workshop for working-groups. The goal is to check and define the design of interior and outfit of a case study belonging to one of the following categories of boats: yachts, passenger boats or cruise vessels.

The working groups are made up of design students and engineering students who learn how to confront and collaborate in achieving the project objectives agreed by the teachers.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The Studio Workshop is made up of the modules: Industrial Design 3-1 and Industrial Design 3-2.

PREREQUISITES

Students must have the basic know-how of the main types of hulls and propulsions, construction technologies, ergonomic elements and the knowledge on how to plan the on-board environments: optimizing connection flows between open and closed spaces, between public and private spaces, between day and night spaces, between passenger and crew spaces.

In terms of control and illustration of the project, they must know the use of hand and digital drawing tools.

Working in a group, they learn how to understand and optimize their contribution by working in team. Finally, through a series of public presentations, they learn how to illustrate the results achieved.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The exam is based on the final presentation of any project through a collective presentation of about 10 minutes which shows the results achieved and the process carried out to obtain them.

Normally this presentation is supported by a series of slides that graphically illustrate the work process. At the opening (or closing) of the presentation, the presentation of a short video-clip illustrating the project (max 60 secs.) is considered appropriate.

At the end of the presentation, the production of an A1 vertical POSTER illustrating the work, is also required.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The exam commission will assist the presentations by evaluating the logic of the speech, the completeness of the work, the design quality and the relevance of the adopted solutions.

The candidates' team-working and problem-solving ability, the good explaination of the achieved results through the proper communication by the efficient graphic and spoken languages will also be appreciated.
