Through a practical and theoretical approach, students will acquire fundamental architectural design skills, founded on the understanding of general notions related to the structures, functions, and forms of architecture. By the end of the course, students will be able to: Design and hand-draw floor plans and elevations of a collective residential building, acquiring fundamental skills that can be extended and applied to more complex design themes in subsequent years. Use computer tools such as CAD software and photo editing programs to produce colored graphic representations. Understand the historical evolution of architectural forms from antiquity to the present day. Professionally present and discuss their architectural project. TEACHING METHODS Ex-cathedra lectures: Theoretical sessions on the history of architectural form, aiming to provide a cultural and historical foundation. Design laboratory: Practical in-class activities where students will work individually on their projects. The instructor will conduct personalized reviews to monitor and guide the development of each project. Didactic materials: Provision of a detailed manual that will accompany students step by step in the design activities. SYLLABUS/CONTENT The course is structured into three main phases: Design of the ground floor and typical floor of a linear residential building: Students will produce hand-drawn sketches in pencil on graph paper at a 1:100 scale, focusing on the functional distribution of spaces and the system of load-bearing structures. Design of the building elevations: Continuing the manual work, students will draw the elevation of the building, delving deeper into aesthetic and formal aspects. Final elaboration of the project: Using CAD software and digital image editing programs, students will produce colored drawings that professionally represent their project. Parallel to the practical activities, the course includes ex-cathedra lectures on architectural form, covering a period from antiquity to the present day. These lectures will provide the theoretical context necessary to understand the stylistic and conceptual evolutions of architecture. A detailed manual of about sixty pages will be made available to students, containing operational instructions and essential theoretical notions for the development of the project. RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY Specific readings will be assigned on a weekly basis.
