AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

AIMS
The teaching aims to:

  • provide basic knowledge of measurement methods
  • provide a general understanding of the basics of biomedical instrumentation
  • provide basic notions on digital images
  • develop the ability to work in a team
  • develop the ability to use tools for scientific research
  • develop skills to represent biomedical data, for example through the use of spreadsheets


LEARNING OUTCOMES
To know and understand the basic principles and applications about:

  • measurement systems in healthcare
  • digital images
  • the representation of biomedical data in tables
  • the graphic representation of biomedical data
  • tools for scientific research.

TEACHING METHODS

Lectures and short group exercises.
In case of documented Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or other special needs, please contact the Lecturer and the dedicated SLD Representative in the Department before the class begins, in order to arrange the specific teaching methods and ensure proper achievement of the learning aims and outcomes.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Evaluation methodologies and techniques in healthcare will be addressed.
Specifically, the following will be presented: Examples of application software, Word Processing and Presentations, Spreadsheets, Basic principles of digital images (e.g. magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, DICOM format), Tools for scientific research, Examples of biomedical instruments, Instruments for the visualization and processing of biomedical data.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The exam is taken at the integrated course level.
The assessment of learning for the specific course is done through a written exam that includes a multiple-choice quiz and open-ended questions. The total score is the sum of the correct answers to each question.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The written exam will focus on the topics covered during the lessons and will aim to evaluate not only the achievement of an adequate level of basic knowledge, but also the acquisition of the ability to critically analyze the questions that will be asked.
The knowledge of the basic principles, applications and possible problems of the technologies presented during the lessons will be evaluated.
