OVERVIEW

The course combines face-to-face teaching and creative learning to provide students with theoretical notions regarding main cognitive science theories and practical skills in research methodology.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims at providing students with an introduction to cognitive sciences, focusing on theories and research methodologies that can be leveraged to observe, measure and evaluate users and their interaction with the machine. The topics will include theories on perception and other relevant cognitive phenomena as well as an introduction to statistics and psychometrics.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to: -describe main cognitive sciences theories on perception, memory and attention; -describe the basics of research methodology in psychology; -design a simple experimental investigation on human subjects; -understand scientific articles from the relevant literature.

PREREQUISITES

The course requires no prior knowledge.

TEACHING METHODS

The course consists of theoretical knowledge and project activities and is delivered through synchronous lecture and distance learning.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The course will cover the following topics: visual and auditory perception, memory, attention, psychological research methodology, writing a research project (outline)

Classroom material consists of: slides provided by the lecturer via aulalweb, scientific articles and texts provided during class.

Oral exam

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The oral examination will focus on the topics covered during the lectures and the research projects developed by the students during the teaching activities.
