LEARNING OUTCOMES

The purpose of the course is to examine the main problems of geotechnical engineering, with reference to natural and anthropic risks. The course focuses on the design of suitable countermeasures aimed at limiting/preventing risk.

The purpose of the course is to examine the main problems of geotechnical engineering, with reference to natural and anthropic risks. The course focuses on the design of suitable countermeasures aimed at limiting/preventing risk. During the course, the topics indicated in the syllabus will be covered.In-depth studies will also be carried out through possible seminars by external speakers and possible technical visits.

Open Badges are awarded to those enrolled in the course, with particular reference to: competence in project creation and competence in project management.

TEACHING METHODS

The course consists of theoretical and application lessons. Laboratory activities (e.g., numerical modeling of geotechnical problems) are included.

Teaching methods will be aimed at enhancing transversal skills, with particular reference to competence in project creation and competence in project management.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

GENERAL INTRODUCTION. STABILIZATION OF NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL SLOPES: GEOTECHNICAL AND SOIL BIO-ENGINEERING TECHNIQUES; DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF LANDSLIDE COUNTERMEASURES. REINFORCED EARTH BY GEOSYNTHETICS AND STEEL ELEMENTS: DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF VARIOUS INTERVENTIONS. SOIL NAILING. LIQUEFACTION OF THE SOIL AND PERTINENT INTERVENTIONS. SUBSIDENCE AND PERTINENT INTERVENTIONS. SOIL IMPROVEMENT AND REINFORCEMENT TECHNIQUES.

The exam is aimed at ascertaining the understanding of the theoretical and application contents of the course. The interview and the carrying out of exercises during the oral exam are aimed at ascertaining the knowledge acquired.
