Particular attention is paid to the fundamentals of management control of companies operating on a contract basis. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The aim of the module is to provide students with the basis for understanding the functioning of the economic and management dimension of a shipbuilding yard. Particular attention is paid to the fundamentals of management of companies operating on a contract basis. At the end of the module, the student will be able to make economic-financial evaluations regarding the execution of a contract or the operation of shipyard in its entirety. TEACHING METHODS The teaching activity will be provided in person through lectures and exercises. SYLLABUS/CONTENT The module is divided into two parts. The first aims to provide students with basic accounting skills and is preparatory for the subsequent part, which is oriented towards management control and measuring business/project performance. Specifically: Introduction to General Accounting Nature and purpose of accounting Accounting principles Balance Sheet and Income Statement Key Financial Ratios for measuring business performance Management Control Cost classification Measurement of full cost of product (resource-oriented and cost center system) Management of large contracts and evaluation of their performance (key performance index and income statement of the contract) Economic Value Added and KPIs for performance measurement Earned Value Algorithms for assessing operational risk Short-term operational decisions RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY To follow the module, the material provided by the teacher will be sufficient.
