OVERVIEW

The Marine Biodiversity and Adaptations module comprises two strongly interconnected sub-modules, which provide the knowledge necessary to understand and evaluate the dynamics of biocenoses characteristic of different aquatic environments.

Specifically, the Bentonology sub-module provides the skills to describe, understand, and evaluate the functioning of benthic ecosystems, the interactions between organisms, the environmental and biotic factors that regulate the distribution and composition of biocenoses, the adaptations of organisms, and their responses to natural and anthropogenic changes.

The Ichthyology sub-module provides the skills for recognising the main fish families, and the means to describe and evaluate the environmental and biotic factors that regulate the distribution and composition of fish fauna in ecosystems, the role of fish in different environments, the adaptations of species and their response to natural and anthropogenic changes.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The subject aims to delve deeper into the biodiversity of marine invertebrates and fish fauna in relation to environmental, biotic, and anthropogenic forces.

PREREQUISITES

To effectively address the subject contents, basic knowledge of zoology, ecology, anatomy and physiology is necessary.
