CODE 118551 ACADEMIC YEAR 2025/2026 CREDITS 3 cfu anno 1 MANAGEMENT FOR ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL TRANSITION (MEET) 11939 (LM-77 R) - GENOVA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR ING-IND/33 LANGUAGE English TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA SEMESTER 1° Semester MODULES Questo insegnamento è un modulo di: QUANTITATIVE AND TECHNICAL METHODS FOR ENERGY BUSINESS AND ENVIRONMENTAL TRANSITION TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB OVERVIEW The main purpose of this module is to provide students competences on the electrical power systems by describing and using methodologies and technologies for the analysis and management of transmission and distribution systems. The module addresses a general description of the energy transition processes and main issues, a description of the electric energy system, the definition of the operating point, the dispatching of generation resources, the structure of the electricity market and the possible services to be offered to the electric system. A basic tool will be proposed for the analysis of electric power system operation and for economic dispatching. Energy management systems will be described and analyzed. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The main objective of the module is to provide students with the skills necessary to analyze and manage both traditional and renewable electrical systems. Students will develop technical and economic knowledge in the field of defining the operating point of large electrical systems, the economic distribution of conventional generation, electricity markets, and Energy Management Systems. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES Students will learn how a complex critical infrastructure like the electric power system is structured and has changed from a vertical to a distributed configuration, how its operation is planned in a previsional schedule and in real-time schedule. They will learn about the constitution of a large electrical energy systems, data related to type and number of equipment voltage levels and main control systems used to operate the system in a secure, reliable and sustainable mode. They will understand the mechanism of economic dispatching of power plants and of the different types of electric markets (day-ahead, balancing and dispatching services). They will learn what is an Energy Management System, an ICT structure for managing and control large power systems. A general objective is the acquisition of knowledge on issues concerning complex structures such as the electrical system in order to make the student able to interact with specialists of technical sectors in working groups that operate in large utilities or in energy management structures. TEACHING METHODS According to the EduNext 75% model, the training programme includes a combination of face-to-face, online and asynchronous teaching activities, aimed at ensuring flexible, interactive and student-centred learning. Active Teaching Activities TEL - DE Active teaching activities in TEL - DE mode include: Face-to-face lessons: 6 hours of classroom activities dedicated to in-depth study of theoretical content, guided discussion and practical experimentation. Video lessons: 18 hours of video-recorded lessons aimed at supporting individual learning and allowing independent use of teaching materials. Asynchronous Online Teaching Activities TEL - DI Asynchronous teaching activities in TEL - DI mode include: Virtual Classroom: 6 hours of synchronous online activities, managed by the Tutor, aimed at direct discussion, sharing experiences and providing personalised support to students. E-tivity: 6 hours of asynchronous online activities, designed and prepared by the Tutor, which students can carry out independently at a time that suits them. Results presented by the Students concerning the e-tivities will be kept into account.
