AIMS AND CONTENT

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The learning objectives of this course are:

• To understand the biological mechanisms underlying the ovarian and menstrual cycles, and their alterations.

• To gain knowledge of the basics of female infertility: the role of age, gynecological conditions, and diagnostic tests.

• To learn about the available first- and second-level assisted reproductive technologies (ART), including clinical and laboratory aspects.

• To understand Italian legislation regarding assisted reproductive technologies.

• To acquire knowledge of male infertility and how to interpret a semen analysis report.

TEACHING METHODS

Lessons, discussion of clinical cases, group analysis of diagnostic exams

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

• The physiology of human reproduction: steroidogenesis, oogenesis, spermatogenesis, hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis and ovarian cycle, fertilization, implantation, embryogenesis.

• Diagnostic tests for the infertile couple.

• First- and second-level assisted reproductive technologies (ART).

• Italian legislation regarding assisted reproductive technologies (ART).
