The Neurophysiology course provides the elements to understand the functioning of some components of the nervous system. The elements for understanding the functions of the motor system and sensations are provided.
The course will furnish to the students fundamental knowledge about the physiology of the sensory-motor system.
T
The aim of the course is to provide the fundamental knowledge on the functions performed by the main structures of the nervous system and on the underlying physiological mechanisms in order to offer a physiological reference framework with which to interpret the role played by these structures in the neurophysiological mechanisms related to rehabilitation.
Regarding the parameters of:
To Know:
At the end of the course, the student will know:
- the principles of functioning of the nervous system;
- the appropriate physiological terminology and the essential parameters for evaluating the components of the nervous system present in the program.
To Know-how:
At the end of the course the student will know how:
- to integrate the knowledge of Biochemistry and Human Anatomy in a more general framework on the function of the nervous system.
The student at the end of the course will have acquired the tools to evaluate the neurophysiological mechanisms related to rehabilitation.
Knowledge of the basic principles of physics, chemistry and biochemistry. Knowledge of human anatomy.
Passing the exams of: Anatomy and Histology
The course includes lectures.
The nervous system: somatic sensations; pain and analgesia; the motor systems of the brain; reflex and voluntary control of posture and movement; the vestibular system; locomotion; motor functions of the cerebral cortex, cerebellum and basal ganglia.

Oral exam. The oral exam, lasting about twenty minutes, involve one question of neurophysiology asked by one teachers of the commission. The grade will be mediated with the one of Human Physiology as regards the Physiology course of the Physiology and Biochemistry integrated course.
The oral exam aims to verify the basic knowledge of the components of the central nervous system present in the program. Language properties, clarity of presentation, consequentiality of reasoning and analytical capacity are also evaluated.
A lesson on spinal reflexes (Prof. Bove) is available online on aulaweb.
