AIMS AND CONTENT

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Recall the notions of anatomy and physiology of the central and peripheral nervous system and apply them in clinical practice to interpret the symptoms presented by patients and the signs objectified during the neurological examination, in order to understand the pathway leading to the diagnosis of the site of the lesion and provide the knowledge necessary to learn the characteristics of the main neurological pathologies.

Summary of the Fundamentals of Anatomy and Physiology of the Central and Peripheral Nervous System
Motor Function: The Cortico-Spinal Pathway and the Cortico-Bulbar Pathway - The Motor Unit and Alpha-Motoneurons - The Gamma Circuit, Muscle Tone and Reflexes - Force Assessment - Central Paralysis and Peripheral Paralysis - Motor Coordination - Basal Ganglia, Hypokinetic and Hyperkinetic Syndromes

EXAM DESCRIPTION

Oral examination.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The oral examination will test whether the student has understood the programme content. The quality of exposition and the correct use of specialist vocabulary will also be assessed. If the minimum course objectives are not achieved, the student will not pass the examination.
