OVERVIEW

The course in Statistics aims to introduce some basic tools for the quantitative analysis of data, with particular attention to economic and social phenomena. The skills acquired through this course provide a fundamental foundation for understanding the issues encountered in other subjects within the study program.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims to provide basic tools for descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. At the end of the course, students should manage the fundamental concepts of univariate and bivariate statistics, understand essential notions of probability theory, and grasp the principles of statistical inference. Students will acquire techniques such as point and interval estimation, hypothesis testing, and the use of models to analyze statistical relationships (correlation, regression, dependence, and independence), both descriptive and inferential. Additionally, students will develop skills in reading, interpreting, and producing correct statistical analyses in selected applied contexts.

PREREQUISITES

The course requires knowledge of the basic skills of a course of General Mathematics for Business and/or Economics.
