At the end of the course the students will be able to: use the specific sociological terminology of the discipline understanding, explaining and knowing how to refer the theoretical concepts (authors, theoretical approaches, historical and social contexts of reference ...) analyze the different family contexts in the light of changes over the centuries and read them with critical awareness through the comparison between the theoretical aspects and the research and / or professional experiences presented in class and through the study texts PREREQUISITES not specific prerequisites are required TEACHING METHODS The course will take place with different teaching methods: lectures, classroom discussions, presentation of texts by students. External experts will be invited to explore some specific elements. The course will use the films and images produced by the Laboratory for Visual Sociology in order to address the topics of the syllabus. SYLLABUS/CONTENT The course will analyze in particular the relationship between the family and contemporary society, analyzing the significant changes of the last decades and the development of the concept of parenting. The knowledge of the texts and the ability to critically discuss the transformations of the family in contemporary society will be evaluated in the light of the main researches and theories.
