OVERVIEW

The Philosophy of Theoretics course is indispensable teaching, as it contains the main branches of philosophy: Metaphysics and Philosophy of Knowledge. During the present academic year, it deals with contemporary feminist philosophies, in contrast to traditional theories.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Providing the necessary tools to answer crucial questions about knowledge and reality, through the consideration of both classical and contemporary theories. Confering depth to those questions that shed light on the nature of the human being and whose answers are tied to conceptual analysis, sound arguments and mental experiments, in order to clarify current issues.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

- To clarify the relationship between feminist philosophies and "traditional" philosophy

- Investigate the debate on essentialism- To abolish or not to abolish the female gender

- Emphasise the relevance of personal and sexual identity

- Delving into various issues concerning the knowledge of women

- Understanding the status quo

- Reasoning about the fate of feminisms

At the end of the course, students will be equipped with the competence to reason analytically about feminist philosophies

PREREQUISITES

None

TEACHING METHODS

Lectures will always be given by the lecturer; these will include screenings of films relating to the philosophical content of the lectures, which will be critically discussed in class.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Program for those who use teaching for 6 credits

Students will have to face the main themes, through analysis and examination, of the philosophy of sexuality.

Students will have to be able to examine the problem of the sex/gender dualism.

Program for those who use teaching for 9 credits

Students and pupils should be able to address and analyse the main issues related to women's philosophies

Students and pupils should be able to address and examine the cornerstones of feminist philosophies in relation to violence against women

NB: Students intending to biannualise the course should inform the lecturer in order to agree together on a specific customised programme, hopefully aimed at the preparation of the dissertation. Students intending to graduate with the lecturer should discuss this with her at the end of the second year.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The examination assesses students' ability to deal with the conceptual and reasoning apparatus of the discipline, confronting the main problems and issues raised by knowledge. The examination will carefully avoid any pop philosophy, any notionism, any historicist approach.
