The course introduces the student to basic aspects concerning different classes of drugs for veterinary use, to toxicology issues and to the use of a galenic in the veterinary field.
The course aims to acquire basic knowledge on various classes of drugs intended for animal use (antibiotics, analgesics, antiepileptics anti-inflammatory and anti-parasitic agents). The course also included notes on aspects of drug toxicity in pets and on the prescription and administration of a galenic in veterinary medicine
The course aims to provide students with the theoretical notions regarding to different classes of drugs for veterinary use with specific examples for each class. For each drug, the following points will be taken into consideration: medicinal product, active ingredient, dosage and methods of use, chemical structure, therapeutic indications, mechanism of action, contraindications, adverse reactions, use in pregnancy. Furthermore, useful information to understand the causes of toxicity in pets, and the reasons that can lead to the prescription and administration of a galenic will be provided. The student will acquire: i) basic knowledge of the main classes of drugs for veterinary use; ii) knowledge of some aspects of veterinary toxicology; iii) knowledge of the reasons that can lead to the use of a galenic.
The student must have knowledge of organic chemistry and pharmaceutical and toxicological chemistry

The exam will be a written test (45 minutes) concerning the program covered during the lessons. There will be thirty multiple choice questions and one open-ended question
The student must demonstrate knowledge of the covered topics by correctly answering at least eighteen of the proposed questions
