AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The course provides students with the tools for metalinguistic analysis, with a special focus on specialized texts, in order to enhance students' translation and interpreting skills between Italian and Spanish. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The aim of the course is for participants to consolidate their knowledge, skills and competences in translation and interpreting, with particular reference to economic-financial and legal-judicial translation and simultaneous interpreting. The theoretical module focuses specifically on encouraging students to independently research and acquire skills regarding the various resources available for producing translations and texts in Spanish that are correct both in terms of norms and in the various linguistic and media variants. The language modules aim to help students acquire good meta-translation skills, techniques and tools to accurately and effectively handle the documentation for a specialised translation assignment and an interpreting assignment in all their phases, as well as a solid capacity for self-assessment and reflection in complex contexts. Specific aims: Develop knowledge and train skills in professional translation and interpreting from both a theoretical and a practical point of view, combining research perspectives and professional standards. Develop self-assessment skills. At the end of the course students will be able to: Identify and solve translation problems strategically and effectively, considering as many contextual and situational variables as possible. Identify and resolve doubts of linguistic correctness with the appropriate tools. Apply acquired knowledge, techniques and tools in a functional and usable way to the specific communicative situation. Organize himself independently and network with other individuals and colleagues in order to apply his skills in a cross-curricular and cooperative manner. TEACHING METHODS Theoretical module: lectures with in-class exercises. The course of the theoretical module implies on the part of students a commitment to autonomous but also group work. The presentation of the topic to be prepared by everyone presupposes both theoretical research among the critical bibliography and autonomous learning of resolutions of doubts about the correct style of texts. Autonomous and group work and the simulation of problems and their solutions shared with fellow students in the course presuppose a search for information, demonstration of functional literacy skills and mastery in the transmission of knowledge (including in digital format), and a good readiness for group discussion and peer review (which will be taken into account for the final presentation of each course content). The course also includes team work and exercises in translation and interpretation. Attendance is not compulsory, but strongly recommended. Non-attending students are required to contact the lecturers to advise of their absence and to arrange for any different course syllabuses, additional bibliography, etc. SYLLABUS/CONTENT The syllabus for attenders and non-attenders is the same. Theoretical module: -Stylistic correction: text analysis, objectives and methods. Standards and ortho-typographical correction. Paper and online resources for linguistic and stylistic correction. Technical-scientific translation and post-editing: Exercises in translation, post-editing and terminographic documentation, to be carried out on specialized and semi-specialized texts representative of different genres and text types (e.g. technical specifications, etc.), including with the use of computer-aided translation tools, constantly accompanied and complemented by translanguaging reflection. Interpretation: consecutive interpreting exercises from and into Spanish. Special attention will be paid to the new role of the interpreter in the domestic market, including with reference to Tablet Interpreting and CAI Tools. RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY For the theory module only: autonomous and group work on researching sources and resources will lead students to constitute the course bibliography together with the professor. Please note that teaching materials are the same for both attending and non-attending students. Class schedule SPANISH LANGUAGE AND TRANSLATION II EXAMS EXAM DESCRIPTION Theoretical module: written test in which a text is analyzed and corrected with the resources known during the course, justifying the work and method. Technical-scientific translation and post-editing: one test from Spanish to Italian and one from Italian to Spanish, after verification of the personal files (“carpetas”) of individual students, which should contain the activities assigned by both professors during the course and the work done in class. Interpretation: oral and in the three scheduled sessions (two appeals per session); the examination consists of an active consecutive (about 4') and a passive consecutive (about 4'). The final grade will be given by the average of the theory module tests (25%) and exercises (75%). ASSESSMENT METHODS In the evaluation of all course modules, the following aspects will be taken into account: adequacy and functionality; accuracy, precision and reliability of both content and form (for example: paralinguistic and para-verbal aspects in the interpreting test; aspects related to format and handling of the assignment in the case of translation; adequacy of resources for self-correction and quality of the result). Evaluations of learning progress carried out through multiple means: in-progress (through tools and methods such as peer evaluation during learning, corrections of both written and oral products, feedback from outsiders in the case of simulations, etc.) and with final tests both written and oral.
