OVERVIEW

This course is taught in Italian and the material available on the website is in Italian. English books on the content of the course may be provided upon request. An english copy of the written exam may be requested to the teacher, at least 7 days before the exam. The final oral exam may be given in English. For information contact: roberta.massabo@unige.it
The design of mechanical structural components and structural systems is based on the funamental concepts of Solid and Structural mechanics presented in this course. The student will develop fundamental knowledge and the operational capabilities necessary to determine and analyze stresses, strains and displacements generated by the loads acting on the structural systems and to perform simple structural strength verifications.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course is aimed to deliver an introduction at the methods and problems of Mechanics of Solids and Structures, focused on the study of the mechanical behavior of materials. The course delivers the instruments to study the behavior of elastic solids and beams. The student must show his comprehension of the basic concepts introduced in the course, and, by solving specific examples of mechanics engineering, he has to show his knowledge on the topics of the course.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

This course is taught in Italian and the material available on the website is in Italian.
The aim of the course is to introduce concepts and fundamental methods in the mechanics of beams, frames and solid bodies (deformable and elastic), necessary to design structural components. At the end of the course the student will have acquired knowledge and operational capabilities necessary to define structural schemes, to determine and analyze internal stresses and displacements produced by the loads acting on the systems, which are necessary to design and verify structural components.

PREREQUISITES

The prerequisites are defined in the Manifesto and Regolamento of the Program.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

This course is taught in Italian and the material available on the website is in Italian.
An english copy of the written exam may be requested to the teacher via email, at least 7 days before the exam. The final oral exam may be given in English.
The final exam consists in a written exams with theoretical questions and applicative problems similar to those solved in class. An oral exam is offered to the students who would like to improve their grades and those who would like to get final grades >27 out of 30. The oral exam must be attended in the same session of the written exam.
The written exam may be substituted by two mid-term written exams, which are reserved to the students attending classes (attendance above 75%). The written mid-terms may be completed by an oral exam (see motivations given above) at one of the sessions in the period June-February (same academic year).

ASSESSMENT METHODS

This course is taught in Italian and the material available on the website is in Italian.
The learning assessment is through a written/oral exam. The aim is to verify if the student has acquired the fundamental theoretical knowledge on the mechanics of deformable beams and solids and the operational capabilities necessary to solve simple structural problems in mechanical engineering.
