The course provides the basic notions related to the motion of fluid currents and to the mechanics of structures. The project and the verification of simple hydraulic systems are considered, as well as the design of real constructions limited to simple, static schemes.
The course provides the fundamentals of fluid flow and the tools for the design and verification of simple hydraulic systems, as well as for addressing more complex problems in a comprehensive manner. It offers the basic concepts of structural mechanics and their application in the design of real constructions, limited to simple static schemes.
To understand and apply most of the concepts described in the teaching, it is necessary to have fundamental knowledge of mathematical analysis, physics, and geometry. In particular, it is necessary to have mastery of fundamental units of measurement, be able to perform simple calculations, and be able to express oneself adequately.
Ricevimento: The students can send a mail to professor Ferraris (luca.ferraris@unige.it) to fix an appointment as soon as possible
Ricevimento: on appointment, e-mail to: luisa.pagnini@unige.it
The exam includes a written and an oral interview.
The written exam will verify the effective ability to deal with the engineering study of fluid currents and structural system. The oral examination will focus mainly on the topics covered during the lectures and will have the purpose to evaluate not only if the student has reached an adequate level of knowledge, but if he has acquired the ability to critically analyze the simple structural systems in the light of the models and of the studied schemes. Students will be asked to set up an engineering model for dealing with the motion of fluid currents and structural system for a specific case study, to solve a simple static scheme, to evaluate stress and strain, to carry out structural verifications.
