Experimental analyses of the energy systems and their components are of fundamental importance for the knowledge and understanding of the real behavior of systems and for mathematical model validations.
To this end, it is necessary to know the operating principle and characteristics of the sensors and measurement and control systems, the calibration methods and theory of error propagation, in order to understand the reliability of the measured data.
The aim of the course is to provide the student with the fundamentals of the experimental study of systems and technologies for energy conversion, imparting the basic knowledge connected with the operation of laboratory equipment, measuring instruments for energy plants, data acquisition systems and processing of experimental measurements. The laboratory activities will be aimed at the experimental characterization of traditional systems integrated with renewable sources, turbine and gas and microturbine plants, cogeneration systems and combined cycles, air or water microexpansors, renewable and hydrogen plants, fuel cells and "power to fuels" energy storage systems.
- Knowledge and ability to apply the theory of errors to experimental data - Knowledge of measuring instruments and data acquisition techniques - Ability to carry out laboratory tests and to process data from fuel cells and hydrogen systems, emulators of combined cycle systems, innovative heat pumps and hydroelectric systems - Knowledge of the performance and behavior of innovative and renewable energy systems.
Soft Skills: Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form, adaptation to the context, use of sources and aids of various kinds, critical thinking, ability to use, process and evaluate information.
Frontal lessons, laboratory activities, technical visits, team work.

Oral examination and laboratory experience reports.
Students with SLD, disability or other regularly certified special educational needs are advised to contact the instructor at the beginning of the course to agree on teaching and examination methods that, in compliance with the course objectives, take into account the individual learning requirements.
The oral interview will focus on one or more questions and will have the purpose of verifying the understanding and knowledge of the topics covered, the language properties and the synthesis capacity of the students.
Practical activities will be evaluated and discussed.
