CODE 108842 ACADEMIC YEAR 2025/2026 CREDITS 9 cfu anno 3 INGEGNERIA DELL'ENERGIA 11438 (L-9) - SAVONA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR ING-IND/17 LANGUAGE Italian TEACHING LOCATION SAVONA SEMESTER 1° Semester TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB OVERVIEW The course is divided into 2 parts. The first part is aimed at the study of the systems supporting industrial production; the second part is focused on the design and management of industrial warehouses. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The course provides the basic elements of industrial plant engineering, aimed at defining the criteria for sizing and choosing mechanical components and systems to support industrial production AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The first part of the course aims to provide students with basic knowledge and general and design tools aimed at addressing choices and assessments of technical suitability in order to address simple problems of mechanical systems and internal transport related to discrete production realities. The second part aims to provide knowledge regarding demand forecasting systems, inventory management in warehouses and the design of traditional and automated industrial warehouses. The assessment of the design learning objectives and general knowledge of the discipline is carried out through profit exams, appropriately calibrated to verify the achievement of the training objectives. PREREQUISITES The main knowledge of dimensioning of mechanical components found in the field of technical physics and mechanics applied to machines is required. Knowledge of fluid mechanics and the essential rules of electrical engineering are also useful. TEACHING METHODS The course consists of lectures and exercises for a total of 90 hours. Part 1 includes 60 hours of lessons. Part 2 includes 30 hours divided between lectures and exercises; the exercises will develop applications of the topics covered during the lessons. Students who have valid certifications for Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), disabilities or other educational needs are invited to contact the Polytechnic School's disability liaison, Prof. Federico Scarpa (federico.scarpa@unige.it), at the beginning of the teaching to identify possible teaching and examination modalities that, while respecting the objectives of the teaching, take into account individual learning patterns. SYLLABUS/CONTENT Part 1: General information on process plants and production systems. Characteristics of industrial buildings and related construction criteria, structural loads, lighting, air conditioning of work environments. Internal transport and containment means, load units. Elements of design and testing of: overhead cranes, motorized trolleys, stacker cranes, gravity and motorized roller conveyors, single and double rail chain conveyors, trolley and special conveyors. AGV, LGV transport systems and control logics of automated systems. Design of belt transport systems, bucket elevators and pneumatic transport. Characteristics and objectives of the design of service systems, with particular reference to the "water" distribution service. Part 2: Demand forecasting. Inventory management: ABC classification. Elements of inventory management: LEA Economic Purchase Lot, PUR Reorder Point, LEA with quantity discount. Warehousing and storage systems: storage policies; forklift-served warehouses: warehouse configuration and forklift operating modes, calculation of average cycle duration and number of handling vehicles; automatic systems to support storage and distribution. Automated intensive warehouses. Oral interview. Before the oral interview, the candidate has the availability to examine a corrected written test, from which he or she has the opportunity to understand the extent of any errors made, with the possibility of discussion and consequent clarifications. Part 2 Written test Optional oral test; Group project work; The duration of the Written test is 1.5 hours and the use of teaching material is permitted. It is composed of 2 exercises in which students must demonstrate that they can solve problems relating to business aspects relating to the topics indicated as indicated in the expected results. The optional oral test aims to evaluate the basic theoretical skills acquired by students; during the oral test, discussion of the exercise papers is also possible to evaluate individual contribution. ASSESSMENT METHODS The exam tests are considered suitable for assessing the disciplinary skills acquired by students. The written test aims to assess the ability to resolve quantitative design aspects of the discipline with free consultation of handouts, notes and technical manuals. This test is aimed at verifying the know-how and evaluating the sensitivity to numerical values derived from the design calculation of simple systems. The oral interview completes the exam and consists of two questions on general knowledge topics of a theoretical, general nature or on the knowledge of specific topics of mechanical systems. This test aims to assess the student's understanding of the discipline, together with the communication skills demonstrated.
