The “Training Theory and Methodology” module provides a structured and updated vision of the theoretical and practical foundations of training, in particular sports training, with the aim of developing skills in the planning, program and evaluation of motor and sports activities.
Through the analysis of physical capacities, training principles and different methodologies applicable in various contexts (developmental age, high level, recreational and health activities), the module addresses the main issues related to the figure of the athlete and the coach, to the management of the workload, to technique and tactics, up to the planning and periodization of training.
Activities oriented towards team building and group work are also planned for the design of differentiated training proposals, taking into account the age, gender, ability and sports experience of the practitioners.
This module explores the fundamental principles, theory and main training methodologies applied to different sports fields (competitive, scholastic, recreational and health) and wellness.
The program includes the analysis of the definition and classification of the components of performance, the programming of training objectives and training of motor skills (organic resistance, strength, speed, flexibility and coordination), technique, tactics and exercises.
The definition of the workload, the structuring and control of a training session are also covered.
Understand the various components that contribute to physical and sports performance.
Define and classify physical capacities and their subcategories.
Identify the most appropriate methods and exercises for training specific physical capacities and their subcomponents.
Plan training workloads in alignment with defined performance goals.
Monitor training effects to assess effectiveness and make necessary adjustments.
Adapt training programs to suit the specific demands of different sports disciplines and the individual characteristics and skill levels of the students.
Understand and apply the fundamental principles of sports training.
Collaborate effectively in group settings, respecting rules and work dynamics according to the Team-Based Learning methodology.
Teaching Traditional lectures (20 hours; 2 ECTS) and lessons based on the "Team Based Learning" teaching methodology (TBL https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Team-based_learning ) (30 hours; 3 ECTS).
In order to participate in the teaching method of the lessons based on Team- Based Learning (TBL), a minimum attendance of 80% of the lesson hours in TBL is required.

TRAINING THEORY AND METHODOLOGY
The Theory and Methodology of Training module includes a written exam to be taken during the integrated teaching assestment, as well as an ongoing test reserved for students who will follow the Team- Based Learning (TBL) method. For more details on the TBL evaluation method, please refer to the document: Guide to the Team Based Learning methodology.pdf ).
Those who, during the course, are unable to complete the TBL in itinere assessment, will have to take, on the day of the integrated teaching exam, an integration consisting of multiple choice questions, in order to compensate for the missed assessment.
The written exam aims not only to assess the memorization of course content, but also the student’s critical understanding and ability to apply knowledge in both competitive and recreational sports contexts.
Students who do not participate in the TBL assessment must instead answer additional questions. These will evaluate their understanding of the entire course syllabus (see “Programme/Content”), which must be studied both through the Aulaweb materials and in-depth using the recommended textbook: Weineck, “Optimal Training”.
For students with certified Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), disabilities, or other special educational needs, the University regulations and legal provisions apply: https://unige.it/disabilita-dsa/studenti-disabilit%C3%A0-normativa
Such students are strongly encouraged to contact the instructor at the beginning of the course to agree on appropriate teaching and exam arrangements that, while respecting the learning objectives, consider individual learning needs and provide suitable compensatory and/or dispensatory tools as recognized by the University’s SLD Student Service.
