OVERVIEW

Integrated course of Training Theory and Methodology, Sport Physiology and Statistic.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

In the Physiology module, the physiological aspects related mainly to sports exercise are explored in depth, in particular: changes in cardiac and vascular activity, the reaction to physical exercise, variations in respiratory parameters and ventilation control; muscle metabolism, endocrinological changes induced by exercise, thermoregulation, physiological activity in extreme conditions (in water and at high altitude). In the Training Theory and Methodology module you will learn the main techniques and methodological approaches relating to training in various sports (top level, scholastic, for leisure, for health), with insights into the biomechanics of the apparatus locomotor and its influence on training, the bioenergetic model and training, power and capacity parameters of bioenergetic mechanisms, definition, training program and objectives, load concepts, supercompensation, measurement of workload, coordination and conditional abilities, training of strength and speed, structuring of a training session. The teaching of Statistics aims to provide the knowledge necessary for the analysis of the methodological processes of functional evaluation of the athlete, with adherence to application in the professional field.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

This course, starting from the knowledge of sport physiology, exercise science and statistics, will lead the student  to understand: the human body adaptation mechanisms during different types of physical activities; the appropriate methodologies and exercises based to the training targets; the proper training program, diversified depending on Sport typology and fitness level of the subject; the objective analysis and interpretation of the training results and athlete evaluation.

PREREQUISITES

To successfully follow the integrated course, students are expected to have a basic understanding of human anatomy and physiology, which is essential for comprehending the body’s responses to physical exercise.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The exam is written and consists of the following sections:

  • Sport Physiology
    2 open-ended questions to be completed in 20 minutes.
  • Training Theory and Methodology
    • Traditional part (2 ECTS): 11 multiple-choice questions and 1 open-ended question, to be completed in 30 minutes.
    • The module delivered through Team-Based Learning (TBL), worth 3 ECTS credits, includes ongoing assessment based on group activities and individual evaluations. For students who do not complete or do not pass the in-course assessment, a written test is required, consisting of 16 multiple-choice questions to be completed in 16 minutes. If the number of correct answers falls between 8 and 10, an additional oral examination may be requested. If fewer than 8 answers are correct, the test is considered failed and must be retaken.
  • Statistics
    5–6 exercises and theoretical questions, to be completed in 1 hour.

 

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The written exam is designed to consistently and comprehensively assess the competencies acquired in the three disciplinary areas: Sport Physiology, Training Theory and Methodology, and Statistics.

Each section is structured to verify specific learning objectives through targeted and varied questions, evaluating both theoretical knowledge and its practical application.
