AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The aim of the teaching unit is to familiarise the student with ship constructions in general and specifically with the main ship structures in terms of: functional purpose, morphology, materials, construction technologies, nomenclature and technical representation.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

An introduction to the ship and to the identification of its parts is provided with specific technical language. The main types of ships and the corresponding global structural morphologies are then presented.

Attention is focused on nomenclature and techniques for representing ship structures. In this phase, the technique is developed of manual drawing, an activity that is still necessary for rapid communication in the workplace.

Shipbuilding materials and experimental tests dedicated to their characterisation are then presented. In this phase the student also acquires the first fundamental criteria for the dimensioning of simple structural components and for the identification and calculation of the geometric characteristics influencing strength in relation to the type of load.

TEACHING METHODS

Students with valid certifications for Specific Learning Disorders (SLDs), disabilities or other educational needs are invited to contact the teacher and the School's contact person for disability at the beginning of teaching to agree on possible teaching arrangements that, while respecting the teaching objectives, take into account individual learning patterns. Contacts of the teacher and the School's disability contact person can be found at the following link Comitato di Ateneo per l’inclusione delle studentesse e degli studenti con disabilità o con DSA | UniGe | Università di Genova
