The course deals with the most relevant topics relating to the main fluid machines with particular reference to those applied to naval propulsion sector
Provide the knowledge for knowledge and understanding of the driving machines operating principles and operators and related facilities , and the types used on board. Provide the selection criteria and proper installation of the machines , illustrating the functional aspects of the regulation .
The aim of the module is to provide an adequate and critical knowledge on the main fluid machines with particular reference to those applied to maritime transport sector, taking into account turbines, compressors and pumps, internal combustion engines with special reference to energy-related and environmental issues.
The student attendance during the lessons and related study activities will allow:
- to identify the main features of the internal combustion engines used in the different application areas;
- to know the main features related to environmental impact of internal combustion engines;
- to identify the main features of the internal combustion engines used in the different application areas.
The module is articulated into classroom frontal lessons, which foresee not only presentation and discussion of the theoretical contents, but also some numerical applications aimed at promoting learning and comprehension.
Students who have valid certification of physical or learning disabilities on file with the University and who wish to discuss possible accommodations or other circumstances regarding lectures, coursework and exams, should speak both with the instructor and with Professor Federico.

THERMAL AND FLUID MACHINERY
Oral exam focusing on specific arguments developed within the course.
Students who have valid certification of physical or learning disabilities on file with the University and who wish to discuss possible accommodations or other circumstances regarding lectures, coursework and exams, should speak both with the instructor and with Professor Federico Scarpa (federico.scarpa@unige.it), the Polytechnic School's disability liaison.
Oral exam on the main subjects of the lessons. The oral examination will be focused on the topics treated during the lessons and will be aimed at evaluating not only the fulfilment of an adequate knowledge level, but also the acquisition of critical analysis skills on the topics of the exam.
It is required that the student has acquired sufficient knowledge of the basic aspects related to thermodynamics and fluid mechanics.
Please ask the professor for any additional information not included in the teaching schedule.
