OVERVIEW

The oncology lessons involves teaching the diagnostic-therapeutic approach to the cancer patient with special reference to with the highest incidence in the general population.

AIMS AND CONTENT

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • To Identify the most appropriate diagnostic pathways in patients with suspected malignancy
  • To define the clinical and pathologic stage of the neoplasm
  • Know the clinical and instrumental features of neoplasms with the highest incidence in the general population (lung, breast, colon, prostate)
  • Know the toxicities of cancer treatments 
  • Know the principles of clinical trials

 

TEACHING METHODS

  • Lectures with projection of power point presentations
  • Clinical cases discussion

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

  • Principles of risk factors, diagnosis and staging of solid tumors
  • Epidemiology, diagnosis, staging and treatment of cancers of the female genital tract
  • Epidemiology, diagnosis, staging and treatment of lung, breast colon and prostate cancers
  • Toxicity of cancer treatments
  • Principles of clinical trails

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The exam is taken at the integrated course level. The assessment of learning for the specific course takes place through multiple choice quizzes (computer test with online acceptance).

The quiz consists of six questions; the minimum number of correct questions for passing the quiz is three.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The quiz questions are developed with the aim of assessing the ability to learn and analyze the issues addressed in the classroom.
