The teaching unit aims to provide advanced electromagnetic skills, which concern electromagnetic radiation and devices, propagation in complex environments, and basic electromagnetic compatibility concepts. These didactic contents are discussed both from a theoretical point of view and with reference to applicative examples.
The unit aims to provide skills on electromagnetic radiation and related devices, propagation in the presence of complex structures and basic principles of electromagnetic compatibility. These topics are discussed both from a theoretical point of view and with reference to applicative examples.
The aim of the teaching unit is to provide knowledge on several advanced electromagnetic topics, which are relevant in electronic engineering. In particular, students will acquire knowledge and skills related to the electromagnetic radiation, electromagnetic devices, propagation in the presence of complex structures, and electromagnetic compatibility. These didactic contents will be also discussed with reference to different applicative examples. At the end of the course, students will be able to understand electromagnetic aspects involved in the study and design of complex systems and structures, and will be able to apply these skills in different applicative areas in the electronic engineering field.
No specific prerequisites, in addition to the normal bases of mathematics, physics, and electromagnetic fields that the students are supposed to have from their B.Sc. backgrounds in engineering.
The teaching unit includes lectures in the classroom, in which both the theoretical concepts related to advanced electromagnetic technologies and the applicative aspects related to their use in different contexts will be addressed, also through exercises.
Students with valid certifications for Specific Learning Disorders (SLDs), disabilities or other educational needs are invited to contact the teacher and the School's contact person for disability at the beginning of teaching to agree on possible teaching arrangements that, while respecting the teaching objectives, take into account individual learning patterns. Contacts of the teacher and the School's disability contact person can be found at the following link Comitato di Ateneo per l’inclusione delle studentesse e degli studenti con disabilità o con DSA | UniGe | Università di Genova (https://unige.it/en/commissioni/comitatoperlinclusionedeglistudenticondisabilita).
Recalls and insights on basic electromagnetic theory. Scattering parameters and matrix. Electromagnetic radiation and radiating devices. Electromagnetic propagation in presence of structures and in "complex" environments (e.g., dielectric slabs and multilayer structures, electromagnetic scattering). Basic principles of electromagnetic compatibility.

The timetable for this course is available here: EasyAcademy
The exam is oral and may cover the entire unit program.
Students with valid certifications for Specific Learning Disorders (SLDs), disabilities, or other educational needs are invited to contact the teacher and the DITEN contact person for disability to agree on the possible use of specific modalities and supports that will be determined on a case-by-case basis, according to the University regulation for the inclusion and right to study of students with disabilities or specific learning disorders.
The oral discussion will be aimed at evaluating the skills acquired by the students concerning electromagnetic radiation, electromagnetic devices, propagation in the presence of complex structures, and basics of electromagnetic compatibility. The evaluation of the exam will be based on the quality of the presentation, the reasoning ability and the level of knowledge acquired by the students.
