SEMESTER 1° Semester

OVERVIEW

The course presents both the main energy conversion solutions for renewable sources through thermodynamic cycles, and the state-of-the-art solutions for the production and use of hydrogen.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course provides a twofold perspective in the field of innovative energy systems: on the one hand, the framework of solutions for the production of sustainable and renewable energy by means of energy systems with low environmental impact, focusing on solutions based on innovative thermodynamic cycles; on the other hand, technologies for the production, storage and use of hydrogen, considered as an energy carrier to be adopted in synergy with non-programmable renewable sources.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course presents the main details regarding technologies and design of innovative sustainable energy and hydrogen management systems, training students in the use of simulation tools for energy systems using non-conventional fluids and with real gas behaviour, and providing examples on MATLAB scripts.

PREREQUISITES

There are no specific pre-requisites

TEACHING METHODS

The course is mainly based on lectures and numerical exercises. At least one laboratory test on biomass gasification technologies is planned. The final exam is composed by a written part, regarding the first part of the course (conversion cycles), and by an oral question, regarding the second part of the course (hydrogen).

Students with valid certifications for Specific Learning Disorders (SLDs), disabilities or other educational needs are invited to contact the teacher at the beginning of the course.
