OVERVIEW

The teaching focuses on the contribution, but also the risks and limitations, of Artificial Intelligence to written production in a foreign language.

 

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

-Know the main uses of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for written production in a foreign language; -Identify the potential for writing of the different tools available; -Apply linguistic knowledge to interaction with AI; -Define appropriate prompts for specific writing-related needs (preparing an outline, evaluating a text, etc.); -Compare and evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of AI for a given writing-related task (e.g., improving coherence and cohesion of a text).

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course, learners will:

  • Know the theoretical and practical principles of written production (WP) in a foreign language
  • Know how artificial intelligences work
  • Use artificial intelligences to support WP
  • Compare different models and systems for the purposes of WP
  • Design appropriate prompts
  • Evaluate the output of AI systems

TEACHING METHODS

The course comprises both lectures and practical workshops

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Written production: cognitive models and writing in a foreign language

Generative artificial intelligence

  • Fundamentals of AI

  • Machine translation and post-editing

  • Fundamentals of prompt engineering

AI as a support tool in the foreign-language writing process
AI as a cognitive partner in academic writing in a foreign language
AI, textual genres, and languages for specific purposes in a foreign language
Correction, revision, and validation of foreign-language texts with AI
Copywriting in a foreign language with AI

The syllabus is the same for attending and non-attending students.
