OVERVIEW

The course consists of a theoretical module and practical exercises in written and spoken language.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of the course, students will have acquired advanced knowledge and skills in linguistics and specialised discourse in the French-speaking world, thanks in part to courses taught by native French-speaking language specialists, designed to facilitate practical language learning at a specialist level (analysis of specialised discourse).

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Theory module: by the end of the course, students will be able to:

•    Communicate in written and spoken French at C2 level

•    Engage in written and oral language mediation

•    Understand how specialist languages function

•    Reflect on the contexts in which specialist languages are used

•    Identify the resources required for professional activities in specialist contexts

•    Monitor one’s own learning and development needs.

PREREQUISITES

Students must have a command of French equivalent to level C1.

TEACHING METHODS

Face-to-face lessons supported by Aulaweb, with team-based learning.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The French language course aims to develop advanced linguistic and communicative skills, with particular focus on languages for specific purposes, the maritime environment, and the linguistic and cultural diversity of the Francophone world.

Course contents include:

  • introduction to languages for specific purposes and technical-professional communication;
  • terminology and communication in the maritime and port sectors;
  • analysis of specialized texts, technical documents, and authentic materials;
  • cultural and linguistic aspects of the Francophone world, with particular attention to Francophone maritime areas;
  • exercises in comprehension, translation, and oral and written production in professional contexts.

The course includes activities focused on linguistic analysis, specialized vocabulary development, and the enhancement of communicative skills in intercultural and professional settings.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

Preparation of a final portfolio based on the work carried out during the course. The final assessment will consist of an oral presentation on the portfolio submitted.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The assessment for the theoretical module aims to assess the skills students have acquired in the specialist language areas covered during the course. The portfolio to be submitted at the end of the course will consist of a reasoned analysis of a specialist text, whilst the oral examination will aim to assess the candidate’s ability to reflect critically on their analysis.Exercices pratiques : voir la page de la section de français (lingue.unige.it/node/44)

•    Formal correctness of language

•    Ability to analyse text types and specialist language, including terminology

•    Ability to engage in metalinguistic reflection

•    Ability to incorporate theoretical references (without which the final mark cannot exceed 26/30)

Registration on the Aulaweb platform is compulsory for both attending and non-attending students. Registration for exams is compulsory and must be completed at least 7 working days before the exam session (unless otherwise specified).
