AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of the course, partecipants will be able to: - identify the principles describing a large class of continuum systems; - derive local equations that govern the dynamics of continuum systems; - identify relevant properties of the solutions to the local equations describing the evolution of continuum systems; - analyse the mathematical properties of the solutions to the local equations describing the evolution of continuum systems, also providing a physical interpretation. PREREQUISITES Standard courses of the Bachelor degree in Mathematics. TEACHING METHODS Teaching style: In presence SYLLABUS/CONTENT Generalities on mathematic modelling of deformable continuous sytems. Perfect fluids. Viscous fluids. Linear elastic solids. Specific examples: vibrating string. RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY A. J. Chorin and J. E. Marsden, A Mathematical Introduction to Fluid Mechanics, (1992) Springer. TEACHERS AND EXAM BOARD NICOLO' DRAGO Ricevimento: On appointment MARCO BENINI Ricevimento: To schedule an appointment, get in touch with the lecturer via email: marco.benini@unige.it. LESSONS LESSONS START https://corsi.unige.it/en/corsi/11907/studenti-orario Class schedule The timetable for this course is available here: Portale EasyAcademy EXAMS EXAM DESCRIPTION The exam is formed by an oral test on all the topics covered during the lectures. Students with learning disorders ("disturbi specifici di apprendimento", DSA) will be allowed to use specific modalities and supports that will be determined on a case-by-case basis in agreement with the Lecturer of the course. ASSESSMENT METHODS During the oral exam, the student is expected to be able to introduce and explain the fundamental concepts covered in class, with particular attention to the statements and proofs of the main theorems. To assess the student’s ability to apply the tools learned during the course, some exercises will also be proposed. FURTHER INFORMATION Compensatory and dispensatory measures Disability/Invalidity/Specific Learning Disorder Dispensatory measures and compensatory tools are intended to enable students to achieve the same learning objectives as their fellow students, not to facilitate the examination. The use of compensatory tools and the application of dispensatory measures must be authorised in advance by the teacher in agreement with the Referee. To take advantage of the adaptations during the examination, fill in the Adaptation request form; the request will be automatically sent by the system to the teacher in charge of the teaching, to the Contact Person of your School/Area/Department and in copy to the Sector; you will also receive a copy of the request sent by e-mail. The adjustments available to students are as follows: Additional time (+30% DSA) Additional time (+50% disability/invalidity) Additional time during oral exams to organise the answer Calculator (programmable and graphing calculators are not allowed) Conceptual Maps Tables and/or Forms Take the exam in written form Take the exam in oral form Tutor reader (for written tests only) Tutor-writer (for written tests only) Your request for adaptations must be submitted at least 7 working days before the scheduled exam date.
