OVERVIEW

The course aims to develop skills in the field of Clinical Biochemistry and applicable Clinical Chemistry Techniques.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Acquire fundamental, basic and specialized notions on: the main metabolic pathways - mechanisms of regulation of carbohydrate, lipid and protein metabolism; structure and function of proteins; enzymology of intermediate glucose, lipid and nitrogen metabolism, mechanism of action of hormones, acid/base balance, markers of function and injury. Acquire clinical information on: alterations of the glucose, lipid and nitrogenous compounds structure - clinical significance of liver and kidney function parameters. Knowledge of laboratory techniques (serum protein and urine electrophoresis techniques); production of radiopharmaceuticals through the use of a circular particle accelerator (cyclotron); production of the required isotope, sending the material to the synthesis module, preparation of the radiopharmaceutical, execution of quality controls for the release of the radiopharmaceutical (injectability for PET execution). The course aims to describe the main technical methods used to perform immunometric tests both with manual methodology and with automatic instruments. The dilution techniques most commonly used in the analysis laboratory are also illustrated.
