OVERVIEW

Experimental analyses of the energy systems and their components are of fundamental importance for the knowledge and understanding of the real behavior of systems and for mathematical model validations.

To this end, it is necessary to know the operating principle and characteristics of the sensors and measurement and control systems, the calibration methods and theory of error propagation, in order to understand the reliability of the measured data.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course provides the foundations of the experimental study of components and technologies for the energy conversion systems, imparting the basic knowledge connected with the operation of laboratory equipment, measuring instruments for energy systems, data acquisition systems and processing of experimental measurements. The laboratory activities are aimed at the experimental characterization of energy systems integrated with renewable sources, microturbines, cogeneration and combined cycles, air or water micro-expanders, renewable source systems, hydrogen and e-fuels, fuel cells.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

- Knowledge and ability to apply the theory of errors to experimental data
- Knowledge of measuring instruments and data acquisition techniques
- Ability to carry out laboratory tests and to process data from fuel cells and hydrogen systems, emulators of combined cycle systems, innovative heat pumps and hydroelectric systems
- Knowledge of the performance and behavior of innovative and renewable energy systems.

Soft Skills:
Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form, adaptation to the context, use of sources and aids of various kinds,
critical thinking, ability to use, process and evaluate information.

TEACHING METHODS

Frontal lessons, laboratory activities, technical visits, team work.
