OVERVIEW

 

The course aims to offer an overview of the main issues in theoretical and applied ethics, presenting the most authoritative classical and contemporary theories and showing interdisciplinary openings in dialogue with the various sciences and other fields of knowledge

 

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Acquisition of skills relating to the study of human action in its ethical dimension Acquisition of the main concepts used in moral philosophy so as to enable the student to form the basic cognitive tools to address, with greater awareness, the ethical discussions of our time Knowledge of the fundamental stages in the history of moral doctrines with particular reference to applied ethics.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The specific objectives of the course are: to provide the fundamental elements of philosophical ethics terminology, its themes and problems, its main currents, and to enable the student to read the classics of moral thought and to engage in contemporary debate.

The main expected learning outcomes are:

  • knowledge of the main currents and historical development of the discipline;
  • acquisition and mastery of concepts and methods specific to moral philosophy;
  • ability to approach and understand some fundamental classical texts and their specific technical language.

 

PREREQUISITES

No prerequisite.

TEACHING METHODS

Lessons will be held in a frontal mode alternated with seminar-style discussions on the individual topics covered.

Students with disabilities, Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or Special Educational Needs (SEN) are reminded that in order to request exam accommodations, they must first submit their certification to the Settore servizi per l'inclusione degli studenti con disabilità e con DSA of the University.

Subsequently, to request exam accommodations, those with a disability or SLD are required to fill out the form found by consulting this page: Servizi per studentesse e studenti con disabilità o con DSA | UniGe | Università di Genova. Students with SEN, on the other hand, are required to send an email to the lecturer, copying the School Referent for the inclusion of students with disabilities and SLD (laura.traverso@unige.it) and the "Student Inclusion" Office inclusione.studenti@info.unige.it. The email must specify:

  • the name of the course
  • the date of the exam session
  • their surname, first name and student registration number
  • the compensatory tools and dispensatory measures deemed functional and requested.

For everyone, accommodation requests must be submitted well in advance (7 working days) before the exam date. Late requests may not be accepted.

EXAM DESCRIPTION

Oral examination

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Assessment, by means of a conversation, of: knowledge relating to the syllabus; argumentative skills and in the approriate use of sectorial language; competencies in making connections between parts of the syllabus and in the logical-rational structure of the argumentation; ability to analyse a short text.

The assessment is carried out using a qualitative-quantitative evaluation form published on AulaWeb.
