OVERVIEW

The course aims to provide the student with the knowledge of the relations between energy (supply, consumption, technology) and economy in the last two centuries. Special attention will be paid on the impact of economic activities on the environment.

The course aims to provide the student with the knowledge of the relations between energy (supply, consumption, technology) and economy in the last century. The course will integrate the basic knowledge of economic history acquired in the bachelor program framing the following topics into an historical perspective: energy sources and their exploitation (geoeconomy and geopolitics of energy; technological paradygms) energy policies (economic policies, dependency and self sufficiency for energy consumption) energy and society (consumptions, living standards) the energy business (business history, history of companies and firms in the energy sector) energy and economic development LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of the course, the student will know different aspects of the recent history of energy as a basic issue of the economic system and will be able to understand properly the various existing relations in this multidisciplinary field. Please note that this course is delivered online (9 hours online videos + 6 hours in person) via the Learn platform. To request access, students must contact the Settore metodi e contenuti at edunext@aulaweb.unige.it.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The exam will be oral and will contain questions on the the topics treated in the course and in the texts and reading materials.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The exam will evaluate knowledge and understanding of the contents of the course with the goal of assessing the student’s ability to apply in economic analysis the tools and the methods learned.
