AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The workshop aims to develop skills in conducting an orientation interview. Exercises will be proposed in which to apply the principles of interview management and key relational skills for the facilitation of professional guidance processes.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the workshop, students will be able to:

·      recognize the main characteristics of the orientation interview;

·      apply active listening techniques and effective communication;

·      use basic tools for managing the interview;

·      identify orientation needs and facilitate reflection on the educational and professional project;

·      participate in simulations of orientation interviews in an informed way.

TEACHING METHODS

The workshop favors an experiential and participatory methodology. The activities will alternate short theoretical introductions with practical exercises, simulations of orientation interviews, role playing and discussion of cases.

Students will be involved in observation and experimentation activities of the main communication and relational techniques useful in career guidance contexts.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The following topics will be addressed:

·      characteristics and functions of the orientation interview;

·      differences between orientation interview, counseling and clinical interview;

·      phases of the interview (reception, exploration, definition of objectives, restitution);

·      active listening techniques and effective communication;

·      use of open-ended questions, reformulation and synthesis;

·      analysis of guidance needs and facilitation of decision-making processes;

·      relationship management in the orientation interview;

·      practical exercises and simulations of orientation interviews.

The workshop activities include work in small groups, role playing and guided discussion of cases

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The exam consists of the drafting of a reflective diary on the experience of the laboratory.

Students with disabilities, Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or Special Educational Needs (SEN) are reminded that, in order to request examination accommodations, they must first submit their certification to the University’s Student Inclusion Services for students with disabilities and SLD.

Subsequently, to request examination accommodations, students with a disability or SLD must complete the form available on the following webpage: Services for Students with Disabilities or SLD | UniGe | University of Genoa. Students with SEN, on the other hand, must send an email to the course instructor, copying both the School Representative for the Inclusion of Students with Disabilities and SLD (laura.traverso@unige.it) and the Student Inclusion Services Office (inclusione.studenti@info.unige.it).

The email must specify:

  • The course title;
  • The examination date;
  • The student's surname, first name, and student ID number;
  • The requested compensatory tools and/or dispensatory measures considered necessary and appropriate.

For all students, accommodation requests must be submitted well in advance (at least 7 working days before the examination date). Requests submitted after this deadline may not be accepted.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The reflective diary serves as a formative and certificative assessment activity at the same time. It will provide material for the assessment of depth of reflection on the topics of the workshop, linking the orientation techniques to students’ own experience, attitudes, relational methods.
