Requisites assessment

For those enrolled in the Course, you will have to take a initial preparation test to assess your knowledge of mathematics and maritime culture.

In addition, if you do not present a language certification of B2 or higher (C1 or C2), you will have to take an English language test of B2 level. The certifications accepted at the University are listed on the dedicated CLAT page. Certifications verified as compliant will allow the B2 level to be recognised.

Students who are able to certify by letter issued by the institute that the medium of instruction (MOI) was English will also be exempted from the English language test. This document may be comparable to a certificate of proficiency in the English language only if all years of studies relating to the diploma have been delivered in the English language.
Both tests are non-selective and do not foresee any closed number and will be available in several sessions during the first semester. If you do not reach the minimum score required in the initial preparation test or in the English language proficiency test, you will be given Additional Educational Obligations (OFAs) which you can fulfil within the first semester of the first year of your course.

The course is open to students from all over the world.

What is

The test lasts a total of 60 minutes and consists of answering multiple choice questions proposed in English as follows:

General and Maritime Culture, Logic and Mathematics (40 minutes)

The questions will focus on general and maritime culture knowledge. The questions are geared towards testing basic knowledge about maritime culture and history, with its characters, products and specific events. The questions are in English.

Assessment of the ability to logically complete an argument, in a manner consistent with the premises, which are stated in symbolic or verbal form through multiple-choice questions.

For the mathematical part, questions are aimed at ascertaining the mastery of:

  • numeric sets and arithmetic (natural, relative, rational, real numbers; ordering and comparing numbers; order of magnitude; operations, powers, radicals, logarithms), algebraic calculus;
  • Euclidean geometry (polygons, circumference and circle, measurements of lengths, surfaces and volumes, isometry, similarities and equivalences, geometric places).
  • elements of plane trigonometry (sine function, cosine, tangent and their inverses, fundamental relations of goniometry, formulae of associated angles, theorems of the right triangle).

English Language (20 minutes)

The test is aimed at ascertaining comprehension of the English language. Students who present a language certificate of level B2 or higher among those accepted by the University do not have to take this part of the test.
