The course in brief

Presentation

The course is distinguished by the peculiarities of its educational offerings, characterized by specialized content in the business, economic, quantitative and legal disciplines related to the shipping, port and logistics sector. The course combines the historic economic vocation of Genoa and Liguria in the sea transport sector with an openness to national and international experiences and relations in order to train specialized professional figures, increasingly in demand in the maritime and port sector, both in the transport of goods and people.

The course's distinguishing element is its high interdisciplinarity, based on business, economic, legal and quantitative content. An additional factor of excellence is the faculty, which has a well-established experience and specialization in the field of transportation and logistics, as well as close working relationships with companies in the sector and institutions in the area.

Learning by doing

Traditional lectures are complemented by participatory and innovative training activities: individual and group project work, preparation of business plans, use of software for process planning and optimization, as well as data analysis. Testimonials from experts in the field, seminars and workshops with companies and institutions, visits to terminals, logistics centers and other experiences in the area are an integral part of the educational offerings.

The training is enhanced by the possibility of numerous internships in companies operating in the port, logistics, and shipping sectors. In addition, students will be able to spend a period of study abroad at prestigious universities that fall under international exchange agreements.

Goals

The master's degree program in Maritime and Port Economics and Management is aimed at creating specialized professionals in the shipping, port and logistics industry.

The course of study is characterized by a strong international outlook in terms of topics covered, teaching methods and study abroad opportunities. This will enable students to understand the complexity of the industry and key global challenges, with a focus on innovation and sustainability.

The course is divided into interdisciplinary educational activities in business, management, economics, quantitative (statistical-mathematical) and legal fields that will provide you with advanced and comprehensive preparation for assuming leadership and management responsibilities in maritime port logistics companies and institutions.

The route

The EMMP curriculum enhances the economic specificities of the regional context and its historical maritime vocation, while being characterized by a strong openness at the national and international level. Part of the teaching is delivered in English to improve the preparation of students to operate in an international context and encourage cultural exchange thanks to the growing participation of students from European universities under the Erasmus+ program.

The first year is devoted to the study of the economic, managerial, quantitative and legal foundations of maritime transport of goods and people, intermodality, logistics and port services.

The second year explores more specific and innovative topics through lectures, seminars and other training activities taught by faculty and industry professionals, as well as through field trips and visits to maritime companies, port terminals and logistics centers. In order to respond to students' interests and desires for specialization, the study plan may be customized through the choice of alternative teachings. This will make it possible to define a pathway more oriented to maritime transport of goods and logistics or to passenger transport and cruises. Students will, in addition, have the opportunity to develop their knowledge in a European and international perspective thanks to the international mobility program, i.e., periods of study in foreign university locations where they will attend courses on the topics of ports and shipping, and, more generally, logistics and supply chain.

The final exam will be an opportunity to carry out research activities and/or company internships, during which they will apply the knowledge they have acquired and gain a greater awareness of the dynamics of the sector.
