Requisites assessment

Genoa Campus

In order to enrol for the course, you will have to take, in addition to the English test, a initial preparation test. The test is not selective nor does it foreshadow any closed number.

Verification of the initial preparation of this course is through TE.L.E.MA.CO, a TEst of Logic AND MAthematic and Verbal COmprehension.

TE.L.E.MA.CO is a self-assessment test that allows you to gain awareness of your level of preparedness, and the areas that need improvement, in order to successfully tackle your first year of study.

The test assesses some basic and some more advanced skills, depending on the course of study.

The verification is mandatory and can be taken on three dates, in September, October and November.

You can confirm enrollment, attend classes and take in-progress tests even if you have not passed or have not yet taken the verification.

If you do not pass the verification (or if you do not attend any of its three editions) you will be given Additional Educational Obligations  (OFA) which you can fulfill by December through a self-training online course and by passing a verification (TE.S.E.O.) for which there are 3 editions.

If you have not yet made up the OFAs by the end of December, you will have to take some first-year exams as a priority and, until you have passed at least 12 CFUs of those exams, you will be prevented from taking the other exams.

If, at the beginning of the second year, you have not yet made up your OFAs, you will be able to register for the second time, but as a repeater, and will not be able to plan to take teachings from years beyond the first.

Visit the UniGe page of TE.L.E.MA.CO. for more information about:

  • test dates and arrangements
  • exemptions
  • manner of passing OFAs

Imperia Campus

For the Computer Engineering replica based in Imperia you will have to take an initial preparation test (A.T.H.E.N.A., Aptitude Test for Higher Education in Numeracy and Analysis) to assess your knowledge of mathematics and computer science.

In addition, if you do not have an English language certificate of level B2 or higher, you will also have to take the section of the test concerning B2 English language proficiency.
The certificates accepted at the University are listed on the dedicated CLAT page. If your certificate is verified as compliant, your English proficiency level will be recognized as B2.

This is not a selection or limited access test and will be available in several sessions during the first semester.

The test can be taken only once.

If you do not achieve the minimum score required in the initial preparation test or in the English language proficiency section, you will be given Additional Educational Obligations (Obblighi Formativi Aggiuntivi, OFA) which you can fulfil within the first semester of the first year of the programme.
OFA are considered fulfilled by acquiring the required ECTS, that is by passing the exam of one of the following subjects GENERAL PHYSICS 1, LINEAR ALGEBRA AND GEOMETRY, MATHEMATICAL ANALYSIS MOD 1 (exams and lectures are in English). If you do not fulfil your OFA within the deadline for submitting your second-year study plan, you will have to register as a repeat student.

Disabled students and students with Specific Learning Disorders (Disturbi Specifici dell'Apprendimento, D.S.A.) will be subject to specific verification procedures, following their request and after submitting the certifications indicated in the University regulations.

Exemption from the test

  1. Students who have obtained a score of 90/100 or more (or equivalent score, if the mark is not in hundredths) in the final examination of the second cycle of higher education in Italy (maturità). The exemption does not apply to foreign diplomas.
  2. Students already in possession of a degree in Italy or abroad.
  3. Students enrolled in the academic year 2023/24 (and not ‘drop-outs’) who transfer from a ‘related’ degree programme at the University of Genoa and who do not have any AEOs. The programmes considered as ‘related’ are published in the Courses of Study section.
  4. Students who transfer from another University or are re-admitted and who have a sufficient number of ECTS, which will also be assessed in relation to the priority subjects of the specific course of study. The Degree Programme Board will decide on doubtful cases.
  5. Students of the Penitentiary University Pole (PUP).

The exemption does not apply to the English language section, unless you submit a language certificate of level B2 or higher.

What it is

The test lasts a total of 90 minutes and consists of answering 50 proposed multiple-choice questions in English divided as follows:

Computer culture 20 questions
The questions will focus on general culture and computer science knowledge.

  • numeric sets and arithmetic calculation (natural, relative, rational, real numbers; ordering and comparing numbers; order of magnitude; operations, powers, radicals, logarithms), algebraic calculation
  • Euclidean geometry (polygons, circumference and circle, measurements of lengths, surfaces and volumes, isometry, similarities and equivalences, geometric places)
  • elements of plane trigonometry (sine, cosine, tangent function and their inverses, fundamental relations of goniometry, formulas of associated angles, theorems of the right triangle).

English language 10 questions - compulsory only for those who do not present a language certificate of level B2 or higher among those accepted by the University
This section of the test is aimed at ascertaining comprehension of the English language.
