Who is he/she?

He/she is a health care professional who is responsible for the attributions set forth in the Ministerial Decree of the Ministry of Health September 14, 1994, No. 740 as amended and supplemented and in the Deontological Code of the FNCO of 2010.

He is responsible for obstetrical, gynecological and neonatological preventive, curative, palliative and rehabilitative care of a technical, relational and educational nature.

What does he do?

His functions are promotion, education, protection of the health of women, couples, children and the community; care, therapeutic education, management, training, research and counseling.

Specifically:

  • promotes and disseminates the culture of comprehensive, sexual and reproductive health in the community
  • designs and implements, in collaboration with other professionals, training and educational interventions aimed at the individual and his or her family
  • identifies the health needs of the woman, mother, child and family and formulates relevant and shared goals of care
  • plans, manages, and evaluates care interventions making use of support staff, if necessary
  • ensures the proper implementation of diagnostic-therapeutic prescriptions
  • performs self-education and training activities with respect to students, support staff, and new hires
  • develops research activities aimed at producing new knowledge for continuous quality improvement
  • fosters professional integration actions and participates in interdisciplinary working groups for citizen care
  • provides advice for the development of services care, rehabilitation and safeguarding the health of women and the community, carrying out the functions identified by the rules establishing the relevant professional profiles and the specific codes of ethics
  • uses planning methodologies by objectives of care for women in the different stages of the life cycle, the couple, the child and the entire community.

Where does he/she work?

He/she carries out his/her professional activity in public or private health care facilities, on a dependent or freelance basis.
