Spaces

Do you want to study over the weekend?

The Home food are cosy university spaces, dedicated to students who want a convivial space where they can eat together and warm up the meal they brought from home or bought outside.

They are equipped with tables, microwave ovens and wifi network.
. In some cases they also have vending machines for drinks and snacks.

Access is free and open to all UniGe students.

.

Your home food is located in the drop-off between Via Balbi 2 and Via Balbi 4.

.

Study rooms

Course students use the spaces of the Humanities Library for study purposes. Access is free, with no need to reserve spaces or services.

.

The following spaces are also available from Monday to Friday from 8.30 a.m. to 7 p.m.:

  • the large terrace of the Palazzo Giacomo e Pantaleo Balbi in Via Balbi 4: a space imagined as an open-air extension of the library, for reading and studying, relaxing and taking a break;
  • .
  • the prestigious space of the Section of Art History (Gallery of the Triumph of Love and the Alcove Room), at Balbi Library 4: two rooms that can also be used for group study and study aloud, without reservation;
  • .
  • the Pongo Room at the Language Library: a room that can also be used for study aloud, distance learning and group study, without reservation;
  • .

Students also have at their disposal a Study Room with 80 seats on the ground floor of the Didactic Pole at Via delle Fontane 10 and two computer rooms on the 3rd floor, with ample opening hours (Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.). Additional refreshment areas for study and socialising have been set up by the School of Humanities in the building at Via Balbi 2 (a room adjacent to the ground floor classrooms, with tables and sofas).

.

In 2024 the GiuBox was also opened,  open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., on the first floor of the Law Library, Via Balbi 130 red (halfway between Piazza della Nunziata and Principe). GiuBox is an alternative place open to everyone, to study and work also in groups, to meet with the librarians for in-depth discussions on services, to relax between lectures. Covering an area of approximately 70 square metres, the space has been fitted out with various types of furniture, creating different functional areas that can be used flexibly according to the different needs of users: modular tables and consoles with chairs, armchairs, upholstered benches, poufs, cushions, a wall screen.

Classrooms

The course of study mainly uses the classrooms located in the buildings in the area around Via Balbi and Piazza della Nunziata. Some of these palaces are historical palaces of the city of Genoa, known as the "Palazzi dei Rolli": Palazzo Balbi Cattaneo (Balbi 2), Palazzo Balbi Senarega (Balbi 4), Palazzo Balbi Raggio (Balbi 6) (for a description of the historical palaces see the University web page at the link https://unige.it/ateneo/patrimoniostorico-artistico-universita-genova).

.

It also makes use, especially in the case of courses attended by a large number of students, of the classrooms located in the other sites of the so-called "Balbi Pole": Albergo dei Poveri, Darsena, Polo didattico delle Fontane.

.

More information is available in the "Attachments" section.

.

Computer labs and classrooms

The course uses the computer rooms and laboratories of the Polo Balbi (which includes, in addition to the Palazzi di Via Balbi, the Education Centre, the Albergo dei Poveri and the Darsena) when necessary.
