The 6-credit version of this course (taught by prof. M. A. Curletto and prof. S. Dickinson in the first semester) is for TTMI students; it also comprises the first part of the 9-credit course for LCM students. The 9-credit version of the course will also include 18 hours of lectures in the second semester (taught by Prof. L. Salmon).
Our first-year course introduces students to Russian literature and culture from its medieval origins to the mid 1800s; in the second year, students focus more specifically on problems of literary style and evolution by examining texts from the 19th and 20th centuries that are linked by a particular theme; students who take the third-year course will go still more deeply into the literature and culture of a more specific historical period (such as the first half of the 20th century).
This course aims to provide students with (1) the basic tools of literary analysis; (2) thorough knowledge of several works significant for Russian literary tradition through the optic of the theme “Love-Not Love”; (3) general knowledge of the main cultural figures and events from the period in question.
The course content will be delivered via classroom lectures with the possible support of Aulaweb and/or Facebook.

Oral and/or written exams
The first round of exams in Jan-Feb 2017 will be oral. TTMI students and those LCM students who wish to complete the exam for the first 6 of their 9 credits will have the opportunity to do so through an oral exam at this time. After February 2017, however, the course exam will be exclusively written. Those who have not yet taken the exam, who have not yet passed the exam, or who have passed only 6 of 9 credits will be required to take a written exam. Both oral and written exams may be taken in Russian, Italian, or English. Students who do not regularly attend lectures will have an additional exercise that consists of questions on literary history. Further details will be provided after the course begins. This program "expires" in February 2017. Students who have not passed the exam by that time will be examined on the course program for 2017-18.
Attendance is strongly recommended.
