AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims to provide a general overlook on the main critical and historical methodologies to deal with the History of Spanish Literature, leading students to experience deep and aware ways of reading the texts of the Spanish canon.

TEACHING METHODS

The course consists in a) critical lectures on the main literary and historical themes of Spanish literature (XVII-XIX); b) close-reading of texts related to the course-theme, in order to apply historical-critical methodologies.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

" Los extravagantes hijos  de mi fantasía" Monsters, music, affects and feeling in the Spanish Romanticism: new models of lyrical invention related to their European  contemporaries and the Spanish Lyrical Tradition (Fernando de Herrera, Luis de León, Garcilaso, Góngora, Quevedo and José Cadalso).

EXAM DESCRIPTION

Oral test, consisting in a critic dialogue with the teacher (length: about three quarters of an hour) to verify the acquisition of methodological skills, by the analysis of texts presented by the candidates.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The evaluation of the test will depend on the mastery of analytical and historiographical methods and on the personal capacity for their application.
