The course illustrates the history of North America (Canada and States Unit) from its constitutive period, the colonial age, up to the beginning of the 21st century.
The course deals with the history of North American in its formative period, from 1492 to 1791. North America is the region that originated Canada and United States of today. It gives large space to Afro-Americans people and their African origins. The course is organized on lectures held by the teacher and oral presentations of the students. The course objective is to provide students with a general knowledge of the first three centuries of North American history.
The North American History Course (Canada and United States) aims to provide students with an introduction to the political, economic and social issues of North America. This teaching provides the basic knowledge of American and Canadian history, even in the mutual function of the historical processes of the two countries.
The course is organized on lectures held by the teacher and if the class in not too crowded students will be requested to hold lessons.
Program for 6 CFU Course The course (36 hours of lesson) illustrates the history of North America from its formative period, the colonial age, up to the beginning of the 21st century. This is the historical evolution of the region that originated Canada and the United States today. The aim of the course is to provide students with a general knowledge of the first three centuries (18th, 19th and 20th centuries) of North American history. Constant attendance at the lessons is required. Those who attend should be able to read texts in Italian and English, even better if also in French. However, who attends is not dispensed with the reading of the suggested texts; the study of the volumes indicated in the bibliography is sufficient to pass the exam.

In addition to the 6 CFU teaching, the second part of the course (18 hours od lesson) will be dedicated to study in deep the history of slavery in the South and the American Civil War (1861-1865) as a turning point of U.S history.
