    OVERVIEW

    The course is organised in two half, the first one will take place in the first semester, the other in the second.

    After a brief introduction on legal comparison, lectures will focus on principal legal orders of both civil law and common law areas. The course will examine also Chinese an Islamic legal orders. In each semester legal sources (especially judgments) will be studied in their own languages.

    Introduction on civil law and common law legal orders. Law history of the two areas and legal terminology in both ancient and modern world; with attention to the legal terms most used by EU legislation or in their preparatory works.

    Lectures, seminars and eventual students work in depth study

    SYLLABUS/CONTENT

    Lectures of the first half, after an introduction on legal comparison theory, shall be focused on the legal world in Europe from 1000 a.C. to delve into the evolution of legal and philosophical studies that lead to the XIX century codification movement. Emphasis will be dedicated to French and German areas, as well as English legal history and legal order, with particular attention on the judiciary system and the legal sources. Those (especially judgments) will be studied in their own languages.

    EXAM DESCRIPTION

    Laurea Magistrale in Giurisprudenza students

    Attendance students will take two written texts; the first one in December 2017, on the first semester program, the second in May 2018, on the second semester program. Texts will be on lectures, integrated by depth-in specific topics and by the materials used for the lectures (you can find it on aulaweb).

    Final mark will be the average of marks taken in the two texts, but the professor can rise it up in cases of very good performances.

    For in employment students there will be an oral test (based on textbook) on the exam sessions indicated.

    To attend the exam, it is mandatory to enroll (at least 48h before the session) following the Athenaeum on-line process.

    Students from Lingue e culture moderne (Language and modern cultures)

    For attendance students, there will be a written text in the first semester (December 2017). For in employment students there will be an oral test (based on textbook) on the exam sessions indicated. Syllabus is the same as the one for Giurispudenza’s students, respectively for attendance and in employment students, but it is restricted only to part 1.

    To attend the exam, it is mandatory to enrol (at least 48h before the session) following the Athenaeum on-line process.
