Presentation
The course aims at introducing first-year students to the basic terminology, the classic authors, the main currents and the major issues of moral philosophy.
Being able to present the main currents and topics of moral philosophy: the problem of freedom, the origin of Evil, and the nature of Good, human conduct, principles, mobiles and purpose of actions, the concepts of virtue and happiness, relative or absolute nature of values. Learning to actively understand classics of moral philosophy, through interpretation of texts written by ancient, medieval, modern and contemporary philosophers.
Students will get acquainted with the major topics, main currents and classics of moral philosophy, in a speculative and historical perspective. Students will be introduced to the major themes in moral philosophy whilst reading some classics.
Lessons and seminars. Written and oral examination in the same day.
